Adeemmra means "good things to come."

That's the name of the village Alulu was born into. An island in Ghana's Afram Plains where water came out of rock, an hour at a time, and a boy who walked hours to fill a single bucket.

He never left it. Not really.

Everything that made him successful in America. Organizing people, reading a room, refusing to wait for permission, he learned before he was ten years old, carrying water and pounding fufu for a household of twelve.

The village was not the thing he escaped. It was the thing he brought with him.

The village didn't
stay
behind.

Creating chances for those waiting to rise.

Alulu never climbed alone. Evans tutored him when it would have been easier to laugh. Afua walked three miles beside him to talk him out of going home. A teacher looked at the boy at the bottom of the rankings and said: people like you grow up to be the best in our society.

Every door Alulu walked through, someone else held open first.

This is where readers become the ones holding the door. Step into a community carrying Alulu's message forward, and opening a way for the next person waiting on their chance.
